The “Littlest Holga” comes to visit part 1 …

On Twitter for quite a while there has been a sort of shared project going on arranged by a fellow twitter photographer Sandeep @givemeabiscuit where a Holga 120 camera along with a box of accessories like filters/special effects lens stuff has been passed around various photographers worldwide who get to keep the kit  for a couple of weeks and then share the resultant images on twitter.

Last week it became my turn to have an adventure with the “Littlest Holga” … it has its own twitter account by the way 😉

Holga

I already have a pretty beat up Holga which I have never managed to get very many images that I was happy with so this chance to play with another model which has yielded excellent results by other photographers was quite exciting.

This is the results from my 1st roll which was some ilford FP4+, I tried using a Red filter on the lens to give the contrast a bit of a boost as the day I shot the roll was very bright and sunny.

I am not sure if it made a big difference but I was happy with the roll which gave me 11 images out of 12 that I am happy to share.

So here are the images and I will blog every roll that I shoot good or bad in the next few weeks … next roll will be some Kodak Ektachrome E100VS so fingers crossed for that one 🙂

Snow day …… part one

In the past couple of weeks we have had a few days of quite heavy snow … the images here are from our 1st encounter with the “Beast from the East”.

The camera/film combination were Mamiya 645 & Fuji Acros 100 and Yashicamat 124G on expired ilford FP4+

The subject matter for both sets of images are mostly the same so that you can make some sort of comparison of the 2 different films.

Firstly the Mamiya 645/Acros :

Next a few from the Yashicamat/FP4+

Both films worked well exposure wise with all the snow with the Acros probably coming out on top sharpness wise but considering the FP4+ was long expired it also looked pretty good.

After this snowfall cleared up we experienced another un-seasonal snow storm last weekend which will follow in the next blog post … this time with colour negative stock.

Anyway thanks for looking ….

December’s #FP4Party entries all together ….

FP4-200_002

This month’s entries were taken using my Nikon F100 with the 50mm f1.4 on ilford FP4 rated at 200 iso and developed in ilfotec HC.

I only manage to get through one roll so I was pleased that I had quite a few keepers on the roll to post.

December’s #FP4Party entries all together ….

This month’s entries were taken using my Canon AE1 Program and my YashicaMat 124G … both with ilford FP4 rated at 200 iso and developed in ilfotec HC.

Luckily we had a bit of snow during shoot week so it gave the images a bit of a theme for a change ….

Obviously the square images are with the Yashica …… I think I will probably keep shooting FP4 at 200 are it gives a little bit more versatility without really effecting the images grain/sharpness wise.  I don’t have anymore FP4 in 120 format so I need to get some before the next party starts in January.

Anyway thanks for looking ….

Some of my Fav’s from the #FP4Party on Twitter …..

c330Since September I have been a participant in the #FP4Party over on Twitter/Emulsive.org …. http://emulsive.org/articles/introducing-fp4party where we all shoot some Ilford FP4 over a week then edit and post during the next 2 weeks followed by a vote at the end of the month to pick a winning favourite.img013I have not really shot a lot of FP4 mainly thinking that it isn’t as versatile as my Favourite film HP5 but since this Party began I must say I am really loving the look I get with FP4 and also how easy it is to print in the darkroom too.t90-2I have posted a few of these over on twitter as entries to the challenge but I thought it would be good to post them all together here on my blog too.

img020-edit
This was my shortlisted entry ….

I was lucky this month to actually get one image picked to enter the final vote which was great as the standard is pretty high and getting better every time as more and more people are joining upc330-4It’s great to be part of this film community, I love seeing what others are shooting which helps me to improve my own photography.

Check out emulsive.org … @FP4Party on twitter for more detailsimg009-edit img021-editI am not sure what I will be doing for this month’s Party I may try pushing it or even do a bit of flash photography as an experiment, what ever I do it will be fun anyway 🙂

c330-6
…. That’s my Boy 🙂

Even my son joined in last month … ps I am the scruffy one on the left 😉

Testing my Canon AF35M with Ilford FP4@200…….

A20141230_185151I picked up this little point & shoot a while back now it was only a few quid off e-bay but have not had much chance to try it out.

As I have a couple of days off work I thought it was time to see if it was working or not.Canon_af35_FP4-026cropBefore we braved the cold and frost I loaded up some ilford FP4 and rated it at iso 200, popped in a couple of AA batteries and shot a quicky of one of my camera shelves with the inbuilt flash.

We then went for a walk in the bright sunshine but freezing temperatures.Canon_af35_FP4-002Canon_af35_FP4-010Canon_af35_FP4-018After developing the negatives I was extremely pleased with what the camera produced, lovely and sharp with great contrast and only 2 shots actually missed focus and they were most probably my fault as I was slightly too close.Canon_af35_FP4-021 Canon_af35_FP4-019 Canon_af35_FP4-016crop Canon_af35_FP4-015 Canon_af35_FP4-009 Canon_af35_FP4-007 Canon_af35_FP4-006-EditThis camera is slightly bigger than my fav Nikon L35AF which fits my pocket perfectly which was the only thing that I didn’t really like about this excellent little camera.

The picture quality well exceeded my expectations, I will put a roll of Ektar through it next and will post the results.

Thanks for looking……..
